University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the date for the National Eligibility Test (NET) 2012 and has invited applications from Indian candidates for the Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Eligibility for Lectureship in various Indian colleges and universities.
The UGC NET 2012 is scheduled to be held on 24th June 2012 (Sunday) at 74 University Centres throughout the country. The candidates can send their online application for NET 2012 till 2nd May 2012. The date for online application registration has been extended from 30th April 2012 to 2nd May 2012 in view of technical problems faced by the candidates in submitting their online application.

The candidates who qualify the Net Exam 2012 for the Award of Junior Research Fellowship would be eligible for pursuing research in their post-graduation subject or related subject and would also be eligible for lectureship. The candidates who qualify NET 2012 for Lectureship would be governed by the rules and regulations of the concerned universities or colleges for their recruitment as lecturers.

Qualification: Masters Degree or equivalent examination from Indian universities or institutions recognized by UGC with 55% marks for General Candidates and 50% marks for other categories of students.
Age Limit: For JRF General Candidates not more than 28 years as on 01.06.2012. Relaxation of upto 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/PH/VH categories. For Lectureship Eligibility there is no upper age limit.
Examination Fee:
For General Candidates: Rs.450.00
For OBC (NCL) Candidates: Rs. 225.00
For SC/ST/PH/VH Candidates: Rs. 110.00
Scheme/Date of Test: The test will comprise of three papers. All the three papers will contain objective type questions and will be held in two separate sessions on 24th June 2012.

Last date for receiving the printout of online Application Form (2 copies), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admission Card (one copy) at the respective test centre opted by the candidate (with fee receipt & category certificate(s)): 07.05.2012
