The Maruti Dzire is a new version of the Maruti Swift Dzire that was launched in 2012 in the category of the mid-sized sedan class cars in India. The old version was launched in 2008. The idea of the car maker to come out with the new version was to reduce the cost of the first version by cutting its length. However, the new version of the Dzire is no cheaper as they have added 150 new features despite the cutting of the tail length of the car. The price disparities are miniscule. Other cars from the popular Maruti stable that did pretty well around the launch of the Dzire were Maruti Swift and the SX4.
Power and Engine
The engine and the fuel economy of the Dzire are at par with the popular Swift car. It delivers a mileage of 19 Kms per litre off the 1.2 litre engine powered at 86 bhp at 6000 rpm along with a torque productivity of 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. The mileage is an important factor for Maruti to retain its number one position combined with the credibility of its age old strong brand name. There is an addition of the variable valve transmission that has heavily improved the acceleration to a commendable push of 100 Kms per hour in 12.6 seconds with the highest count of 169 Kms per hour.
Exterior Elegance
The exterior beauty of the car has been enhanced with a few touch ups. It does not reflect the sporty look which every car brand has tried to emulate. It has its own appeal. It is broad and cut short in its length. The front area has been heavily worked upon. The front grill is left black to enhance the shine of the Maruti logo, the fog lamps and headlights have been given the cat look design adding a unique touch to it and the bumpers are the same colour as the car. The final touches are given by the polished alloy wheels of the sedan.
Interiors
The basics as of all Maruti cars are intact even in this Dzire. The leg room, the headroom and the overall space-occupancy ratio is well maintained. The upholstery has been given a different look this time, a subtle colour combination of beige and black. There is nothing fantastic about the interiors, just the same good old Maruti standards. The dashboard does not exude any class, it looks very ordinary. It could and should have been classier considering the tough competition amongst sedans.
Handling, Safety and Drive
Don’t expect any kind of fun ride with a soft rear however, the handling is smooth. It houses some of the best in the class safety features like the advanced braking methods similar to the EBD, ABS along with Brake Assist, etc. It comes with a set of front dual airbags and anti-lock braking system.
