Karva Chauth, the most important festival for a married Hindu woman, will be celebrated on 13th October 2022, Thursday. It is the festival for Hindu brides who observe fast for the long life of their husband, and after seeing the glimpse of the moon in the evening and worshipping both husband and Moon, they break their fast. The purpose of the fast is to pray for the husband’s long- life and prosperity.
Karva Chauth is popular amongst married women in India’s northern and western parts, especially Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat.
The festival comes nine days before Diwali on ‘Kartik Ki Chauth,’ i.e., on the fourth day of the new moon immediately after Dusshera. They celebrate it will be great enthusiasm and happiness by dressing themselves in bridal makeups, adorning jewelry, and applying Mehandi on their hands.
They observe a strict fast and do not take even a drop of water. Lord Shiva, Parvati, and their son Kartikeya are worshiped on this day along with the 10 ‘Karwas’ (earthen pots) filled with sweets. In the evening, they worship Moon, and after offering water to the moon, they break their fast.
Children help out their mothers in the preparation of food, and in the evening, they express joy by burning crackers after the rituals and praying. So not only homemakers but even the working women keep fast with zest, and that is worth appreciation.
In India, even everybody today seems to be busy in their own busy life, but still, there is a lot of respect and feelings for these festivals, and they are celebrated with immense predilection and happiness.
