A Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi also known as “Bapu” is the greatest leader of Indian History who was the man of immense power and greatest follower of Ahimsa. Today is his Birthday and the whole nation celebrates this as a Gandhi Jayanti.

Although he died more than 60 years ago but he is still present in our hearts in some or the other way. He is the real Hero of India and who brought independence to our India and made us free from the British rule.
Mahatma Gandhi – the father of Nation was the man of great principles and fundamentals and is popularly known for his non- violence, justice and tranquil nature. He fought his every movement with Ahimsa and peace and ruled out Englishmen out of the country. Being born on 2nd October 1869 at Porbandar, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi always had love and affection towards his country and after studying Law from London he returned to India and suffered many hardships and brutal beatings from the British Government. After that he decided to against them and started different movements all over India. He became popular among the Indians and made his mind to fight for Independence of India.

After much efforts and robust attitude towards the spirit for the Nation he was able to bring Independence in India. But the one thing which he never left was his non- violent nature. Whether it was his Non- cooperation movement, civil disobedience movement or Quit India movement he never took a step of violence. And finally India got its Freedom with his efforts.

The later stage of his life was not good and he was shot dead by Nathuram Godse in public place on 30th January 1948. Although so many years have been passed away but still he is present in our hearts as a real hero and on 15th June 2007 United nations general Assembly adopted a resolution of celebrating it as a International day of non- violence.

We remember him in different ways; some people celebrate it as a Dry day while some remember him through the movies like Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Gandhi my Father. The latest Janlokpal Movement by Anna Hazare also made us to think about Gandhiji who threw Corruption out of the country 64 years before.

Here are some of the greatest sayings of Mahatma Gandhi which became the axioms and are true lines of human Character:

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever”

“Whenever you are confronted with an opponent, conquer him with love.”

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed”

“Man should forget his anger before he lies down to sleep.”

“We must be the change we want to see.”
